My quilting buddies, EB ,ST and I went on a quilt retreat. We went to Patchwork Gardens in the “wilds” of PA. It’s like a little hide-away off the dirt road. We had cows in the pasture in front of the cabin ( the sheep were over by the barn this time). JS, our hostess, has a Handi Quilter dealership and rents time on her machines (2 16’s and one brand new 18). She also has retreats where you can come and spend time quilting on her machines. It was wonderful!! I got 2 quilts for Christmas done. I had time to do another but didn’t have one with me! EB did a lap and queen quilts, and a table topper. ST got 2 quilts done and a window covering! We went Thursday midday and I came home Sat. early afternoon. EB and St stayed later. We didn’t really plan our meals but always had more than enough to eat! We could have gone out but were very content and settled in. It would be nice to be snowed in there as long as you had power!
Here are some of the pictures:
The newest longarm Avanti 18. I didn’t get to quilt on it but it is a nice machine. They have listened to their customers and made improvements.
ST and one of her train quilts (she did 2 of them!)
EB working on the Pro Sticher. It does computerized quilting. It is amazing what machines can do!! She had started this quilt when we were there before so now she had a chance to finish it. I think if you click on it you can see the feathers in the bottom border that the Pro Stitcher did.
The finished quilt-this one is for her (EB is a very generous person and gives away her quilts so it was nice she made one for herself!)
Don’t you just love the bear!!! Looks like it is after ST! JS had a group from NYC and one person wouldn’t leave the building alone she was so afraid! I’m sure the bear didn’t add to her security! They also closed all the blinds! I’m sure I’d be fearful to visit them in the Bronx!
EB and her queen size quilt. This machine is on the sunporch. She really enjoyed the free hand process of doing this one.
JT and I with the Pro Stitcher. It was a beautiful heart design that was like what was in one on the fabrics in the quilt!
Look Ma, no hands! Yes the machine is quilting!!
I had hoped you could see the quilting-it’s very similar to the white with pink hearts on the left.
EB and her table topper.
That bear is after her now!
We had a wonderful time, challenging as we learned new things but a needed break from life. I have to say, ST had not gone for the lessons so our 1st day there was challenging for her as she had a lot to learn (overwhelming). That evening she wasn’t sure that it wasn’t easier to pin baste etc. The next day she got the hang of it and she loved it too! It says a lot for her as she is 75 years old! Always willing to learn new things!! I give her a lot of credit!
Thanks Jude for a wonderful time! I’m sure we’ll be back (though we’ll probably wait till after the snow!).
